What is sedation Dentistry?
Also known as sleep Dentistry, Conscious Sedation or Twilight Dentistry, Sedation Dentistry is a very safe, effective and modern technique to help overcome the anxiety and fear associated with dental treatment. A combiation of pain and anxiety relieving drugs are given that produce a drowsy dreamlike state that makes your visit both comfortable and relaxing.
Most people are unaware of the availablility of Sedation Dentistry, but once they have experienced the relaxation and calmness that it provides, they know that they never need fear dental treatment again.
Who can benefit from Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation can greatly benefit anyone who:
- Is afraid of needles and injections
- Dislikes the smells, tastes and noises of dental treatment

Am I required to go to hospital?
No. Sedation Dentisty does not require hospitalisation. It is performed in our practice and is safer than a general anaesthetic. During your appointment, you continue to breath on your own without assistance. The aim is to reach a state of calm, relaxation and drowsiness - so that your treatment can be carried out with ease and you will remember very little.
What do I need to do before being sedated?
You will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult who must take you home and stay with you for the rest of the day. You will also need to fast prior to the appoinment. This means no food or drink for six hour prior to your appointment.
What do I wear?
Loose fitting comfortable clothes.
What happens when the sedation wears off?
Just like when asleep, you'll slowly awaken. You will however, feel sleepy for a few hours afterwards.
